Walk your way to better strength and balance

Walk Your Way to Better Strength and Balance

Active Fife are inviting everyone to take part in the Strength & Balance Challenge—a 6-week commitment to doing strength and balance exercises at least twice a week.

Walking daily is a great way to stay active, but to walk further and reduce your risk of falls, it’s important to build strength and improve balance too.

What’s the Challenge About?

Whether you live, work, volunteer, or study in Fife, this challenge is for you. It’s all about moving more every day—because small steps really do make a big difference.

The aim

To move more every day, because small steps can make a big difference.

  • Walk more: Try adding extra steps to your daily routine.
  • Do strength & balance exercises: Aim for at least twice a week to maintain muscle, improve stability, and support bone health.
  • Sit less, move more: Break up long periods of sitting with short bursts of movement.

Our Strength & Balance leaflet includes 8 easy exercises you can do at home at your own pace. For example, you could

  • Do 4 exercises one day, and the other 4 another day
  • Mix and match 2 exercises every other day

It’s up to you how you take part. Remember —every minute counts, and some is good, more is better!

If you would like to take part in the challenge, please sign up using this form.

At the end of the six weeks, Active Fife will get in touch to hear how you got on and how the exercises have impacted your daily life.

If you're an organisation working with groups of older adults, you can request a visit from the Active Communities team to explain the challenge and demonstrate  some of the exercises in persons. Email Bumsoffseats.Project@fife.gov.uk and we’ll be in touch.

Let’s move more, feel stronger, and stay steady—together.
