The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations place explicit duties on Fife Council to assess and manage the risks arising from asbestos in our premises and the work we undertake there and elsewhere. The risks will vary with circumstances, ranging from normal occupation of a building to the repair, refurbishment and ultimately, demolition of any premises.

Fife Council recognises a general duty to do all that is reasonably practicable to prevent exposure of our employees and others (including visitors, pupils, residents, tenants, contractors and other users of Council properties) to risk arising from airborne asbestos fibres.

It is recognised that those directly and indirectly engaged in maintenance or other construction work are particularly vulnerable – this includes persons entering or working on buildings after damage by fire.

Fife Council Corporate Health and Safety Team has developed a range of Procedure, Protocol and Guidance documents to support managers, employees and our external contractors and consultants in meeting our asbestos management Policy objectives.
