NGB Qualifications

Cycling UK MB Trail Leader

This 3 day course covers the skills necessary to lead mountain bike rides in non-technical terrain, less than 600m above sea level and in summer conditions during daylight hours.

You will cover;

  • Personal riding skills
  • Leading groups of adults, young people and children
  • Manage groups with a range of riding experience
  • Prepare for rides, anticipate and minimise safety factors
  • Develop and apply risk assessments, operating procedures and dynamic risk management
  • Provide fun, engaging and developmental sessions
  • Understand access rights
  • Complete and review rides using self-reflective principles

Cycle Ride Leader

This 1 day course covers the skills needed to lead cycle rides on roads and recognised cycle paths. Rides will usually be aimed at novice or inexperienced cyclists who want to become more confident and explore their local area.

By the end of this course, you will be able to;

  • Identify the responsibilities of a Cycle Ride Leader
  • Perform cycle safety checks and assess participant’s ability
  • Prepare for and lead a group ride
  • Perform dynamic risk assessments and complete route planning cards
  • Signpost participants to further destinations

MTB Skills Workshop

This 1 day workshop covers mtb skills required for off-road riding and NGB leader awards. The day will be tailored to needs of the individuals.

Skills may include;

  • Body position for balance, control and confidence
  • Safe and efficient use of the brakes
  • Cornering
  • Improved climbing
  • Technical Descents
  • Feel the flow - body movement, bumps etc
