This Privacy Notice explains how we use the information that we collect about you.
Fife Council uses your personal information for the purpose of food safety, health & safety, waste duty of care, licencing activities, port health and the investigation of infectious diseases & public health incidents.
We have statutory functions to carry out inspections, investigations and interventions in terms of various pieces on legislation including but not limited to: the Food Safety Act 1990, the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Environmental Protection Act, the Refuse Disposal (Amenity) Act 1978, the Public Health (Scotland) Act 2008, the Deer Scotland Act 1996, the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 and the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005.
The personal information we gather and use includes name, contact details and date and place of birth. We may also require information on medical information.
We share your information with Police Scotland, NHS Fife, Food Standards Scotland/Food Standards Agency, Health and Safety Executive, other local authorities and other Fife Council services as appropriate and in line with our statutory activities, the protection of public health and prevention and detection of crime.
We receive information about you from other local authorities, other Fife Council Services, NHS Boards, Food Standards Scotland/ Food Standards Agency, the Health and Safety Executive and via statutory notifications. We also receive information from completed forms including applications for the registration of food businesses.
We may also obtain information about you from publicly accessible sources such as Registers of Scotland and the voters roll.
In terms of our public health statutory duties and the investigation of infectious diseases and public health incidents we can act on behalf of and/or direction of Consultant in Public Health Medicine of NHS Fife.
In the event that we did not obtain and use this information then it would not be possible to carry out our statutory functions and protect public health.
The Council will not keep your information for longer than is necessary. In some instances the law sets the length of time information has to be kept.
