There are certain types of repair that we must attend to within an agreed time. These are classed as ‘right to repair’. We try to attend the same day, but we have until the end of the next day. There are many examples of these types of repairs, including:

  • Unsafe electrics or lights
  • A loss of water, electrics or gas supply
  • Door locks or windows not securing your home
  • Loose handrails
  • Blocked drains, sinks or toilets
  • Floods or heavy leaks from pipes
  • Loose or uneven flooring

If we don’t fix the issue within this time, you have the right to ask us for the name of a different company to do the work. They’ll let us know once they’ve done the work. You may be able to claim anything from £15 up to £100 as compensation.

We’ll look at what’s happened and why the repair wasn’t done in time. If there’s a good reason for it, we’ll discuss this with you. This could be because of something out of our control, such as severe weather. Unfortunately, you’ll not get any money paid back if this is the case.

If we’re at fault, we’ll look to pay the money back to you. We’ll check your rent account, to make sure you don’t already owe us money. If you owe us money, we’ll add the credit on to your rent balance. In all other cases, we’ll send you a letter and ask for your bank details. We will then get the money into your bank.
