We are following the advice from Health Protection Scotland (HPS) to help safeguard council services and buildings for the public and our staff. On 4 March HPS issued Covid-19: Information and Guidance for Non-healthcare Settings

We’re sharing information and advice on illness prevention, and good hygiene practices directly with all staff.

Our buildings and services remain open as usual and are safe for visitors and staff. Our buildings will display public information notices and hand washing advice.

Council employees who have developed a cough or fever in the last 7 days should stay at home for 7 days from the day your symptoms started and should:

  • follow the advice given by the NHS
  • if you are well enough to work but need to stay at home, contact your manager who will discuss your options and help make appropriate arrangements - this must be recorded as self-isolation on aboutMe (see below)
  • if you are too unwell to work, report sick by phoning the Sickline on 03451 551111 - normal absence management procedures apply until your symptoms resolve and you return to work
  • follow NHS advice regarding a return to work

Council employees who have been instructed to self-isolate but do not have symptoms of coronavirus should:

  • contact your line manager by phone in the first instance to discuss your options
  • not attend your workplace
  • arrange to work from home where possible
    • arrangements can be made to deliver work materials to you if necessary – these would be dropped off at your door and direct close contact should be avoided
    • if you can’t usually work from home because of the nature of your job, your manager will see if there is some specific project work or relevant e-Learning you can do. If there are no alternatives your manager will grant special leave
  • record self-isolation as a leave request on iTrent AboutMe under “Other” absence - Paid Public Health Advice and select either
    • Public Health Advice (Working from Home) or
    • Public Health Advice Absence (only where no other duties can be undertaken)

Managers will confirm the reason for any self-isolation, such as travel to a lockdown area, before authorising leave requests for this purpose.

Fife Council has plans in place for when employees can't make it into work as they usually would - our Severe Weather and Other Critical Incident Guidance applies.

Council employees who have holidays booked should follow the most up to date travel advice issued by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
