Fife Council has declared a Climate Emergency and Addressing the Climate Emergency is a priority in the Plan4Fife recovery and renewal plan. To deliver this priority, tackling the climate emergency needs to be addressed at every level of what we do. Climate Fife details the Council’s plan and we’re working in partnership with Climate Action Fife to deliver action in the community.
If we’re all going to take the deep, rapid action on climate change that is required to stop climate chaos then we all need to know exactly what it is and where our power lies in making changes.
This is where Climate Knowhow comes in. The Climate Action Fife project offers a range of training sessions to build knowledge and understanding of the climate emergency. The courses are open to everyone in Fife and you do not need to have any prior knowledge to take part. All of the courses are free.
Fife Council has its own Local Authority courses from the Carbon Literacy Project*, including adaptation and resilience to climate change as we’re already experiencing changes.
Fife Council are proud to have trained over 100 staff in Climate Literacy that are accredited carbon literate by the carbon literacy project. Including Managers, Councillors and Officers.
The Council is a Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation, and is committed to equipping staff with the right knowledge and tools to tackle the climate emergency for a fairer, more resilient Fife. Fife Council’s Planning services have achieved Gold Carbon Literate Organisation standard and are the first Local Authority department to do so.
This is a cascade model of training whereby if you receive the training, support is provided for you to deliver the course to your colleagues, in this way Fife Council hopes to train over 800 staff in the next 5 years.
For information on the public sector Climate training please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. Free courses that are available include College, University, NHS, and emergency services. The Council course is available on Oracle, just type Climate into the search box. Bespoke Toolbox talks and CPD sessions are also available.

Carbon Literacy is relevant climate change learning that catalyses action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Carbon Literacy Project works to provide access to this learning to everyone who lives, works and studies and is expanding rapidly across the UK and beyond. The Carbon Literacy Project is based on the key aim that if we are to cut our carbon emissions by the kind of reductions demanded of us by science, then we will need to change culture alongside technology.
