The Nursery Curriculum
In the nursery we plan experiences in line with the national guidelines for the 3-5 curriculum. We are also reviewing what we offer in line with the Curriculum for Excellence. Within the nursery, children have access to all areas of early years learning – construction, small world, sand and water, big blocks, story corner, writing area, woodwork, music, ICT (SMART board), art and craft, house and role play areas.
An important aspect of a child’s physical development and wellbeing is outdoor play. It is widely recognised that children should experience our door play throughout the year. The children have regular access to our outdoor garden, which has been designed with the support of Craigencalt Ecology Centre. We are also part of the Fife Council Nature Kindergarten initiative, which encourages all nursery children to experience at least one nursery session in a woodland setting. The philosophy of Nature Kindergarten is that children go to the woods in all weathers except high winds. We are fortunate to have been given permission to use an area of the Raith Estate which each ‘room’ visits once a week.
