Outdoor Education Fife can offer a suite of progressive Outdoor Learning PL opportunities for education and CLD colleagues.

• Introduction to Outdoor Learning (in person - available in 2026)A half day practical course exploring core themes of outdoor learning and the curriculum, risk management, leading groups outdoors and practical ideas.
• Outdoor Learning in Action (in person - available in 2026)A full day practical course for staff already confident teaching outdoors which explores further ideas for outdoor learning including updates on OL policies and initiatives.
• Taking Learning Outdoors Lead Teacher Programme (in person - available in 2026)

This 6-twilight PL programme takes place throughout the academic year for practitioners leading outdoor learning in their establishment. The programme focuses on building outdoor learning into school improvement plans and practical ideas, resources and professional learning to support this.

• Whole School Approach to Outdoor Learning (online - available in 2026)Discussion with SLT and Lead teachers about how to build outdoor learning into a whole school approach including skills framework, sample whole school pathways and linking with school improvement plans.
• Teaching Outdoors (in person - available in 2026)Suite of practical courses (1.5 hours) to increase confidence in teaching within the Outdoor environment. Use of key resources including Outdoor Learning Cards and Finding Your Way Resources and linking curriculum learning to these activities.

• Activity Specific Courses (in person - available in 2026)
  • Bikeability / Cycle / Mountain bike Training
  • Paddlesport Training

• Evolve Visit Coordinator (EVC) Training (in person - tbc)A half day training course for Evolve Visit Coordinators (EVCs) in any schools or establishments across Fife Council. The training supports the planning, recording, monitoring and approving off-site visits and links to the National Going Out There Guidance.
